In 1985 a young and talented French motocross rider named Eric Valat got a terrible knee injury during a race. In trying to get back on the bike after his surgery, he realized that there was virtually no product available to help his repaired knee get the proper protection while getting back to riding. With the help of his knee surgeon they designed and built a first prototype of a nifty knee brace product that would later see the light as the first EVS Knee Brace, known as the EVS AMX2, with EVS standing for the Eric Valat System. After securing US distribution in 1987, EVS eventually added products like the AMX3 with graphite hinges. Soon it became apparent that production needed to be moved to the USA for quality and cost reasons, and at that point the entire corporate center was moved to the USA. Eric Valat sold his entire interest in the company to the current owners of the company in 1994. Since that time the growth really took off, and continues to benefit from lots of investment in Research and Development, Rider Support, and Advertising.
